They are looking for an experienced Aviation Commercial Business Development Manager to drive growth of their charter services.

 

Position

Based in Port Moresby, this position reports to the General Manager Commercial and plays a pivotal role in driving the growth of charter services by identifying and securing new business opportunities. The role is responsible for developing and implementing strategic initiatives to expand the client base, increase revenue, and enhance charter market presence.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • External Commercial Relations: Maintain external commercial relations and strong communication lines with stakeholders, corporate domestic & international clients, travel agents, government agencies, international aid agencies, and extractive resource sectors.
  • Market Research and Analysis: Conduct thorough market research to identify potential clients, market trends, and the competitive landscape; Analyse customer needs and industry requirements to develop targeted strategies.
  • Business Expansion: Identify and cultivate new business relationships; Develop and maintain a robust sales pipeline.
  • Proposal Development and Presentation: Prepare compelling proposals and presentations tailored to the unique needs of prospective clients.
  • Contract Negotiation: Lead negotiations with clients to finalise commercial, pricing, and service agreements in conjunction with internal key stakeholders.
  • Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong, long-lasting relationships with clients, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction; Serve as the main point of contact for key accounts, addressing their needs and concerns.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including finance, operations, safety, and engineering, to ensure cohesive and effective business strategies.
  • Performance Tracking: Implement metrics and KPIs (including for direct reports) to measure the success of business development initiatives; Regularly analyse and report on sales performance, adjusting strategies as needed.
  • Digitalisation: Assist in the digitalisation of the commercial landscape, including the rollout of appropriate AI tools.
  • Ad-Hoc: Any other task assigned by the CEO or their delegate.

Requirements

Qualification / Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications preferably in a Business-related discipline
  • Proven experience in business development, sales, or a similar role within the charter industry
  • Strong understanding of charter services, regulations, and market dynamics
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
  • Results-oriented with a track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets
  • Ability to travel as needed
  • Strong airline experience will be favoured
  • Experience in the Aviation industry and/or PNG / emerging market experience is an advantage
  • Strong negotiator
  • 5–10 years of industry experience

Technical Attributes

  • Industry Expertise: Deep understanding of the charter industry, including knowledge of regulations, compliance standards, and best practices; Stay abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and emerging opportunities to maintain a competitive edge
  • Systems & Procedures: Ability to proactively develop systems, products, and procedures, and to operate effectively in a dynamic environment
  • Data Analysis and Market Intelligence: Utilise data analytics tools and market intelligence to identify potential clients, assess market trends, and make informed strategic decisions; Analyse performance metrics and KPIs to evaluate the effectiveness of business development initiatives
  • CRM Systems Proficiency: Experience with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems to manage and track leads, contacts, and opportunities
  • Proposal Management: Proficient in preparing detailed and comprehensive proposals using tools like Microsoft Word or specialised proposal management software
  • Financial Analysis: Ability to conduct financial analysis, including pricing models, cost-benefit analysis, and budgeting, to support strategic decision-making and ensure profitability

  • Remuneration: Local market value (to be discussed after a successful candidate has been identified)
